Family Water Emergency Plan

In 1973 conference address, President Ezra Taft Benson gave some excellent instructions about home storage:
“For the righteous the gospel provides a warning before a calamity, a program for the crises, a refuge for each disaster. …
“The Lord has warned us of famines, but the righteous will have listened to prophets and stored at least a year’s supply of survival food”
The church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints highly recommends that each family should have a two week water storage containing a gallon a day per person. For a family my size we should have 308 gallons water.
• The first thing that is first is to have our water storage contain 308 gallons (right now we are still building with water bottles with 24 bottle per package)
• The second is water purification my family does doTERRA essential oils to decontaminate water. Purify peppermint and Lemon oil Properties: anticancer, antidepressant, antifungal, antiviral, antiseptic, antioxidant, refreshing, astringent, invigorating, and a tonic.
• The third and final step would be filtering water from natural sources like a nearby lake, stream, or river
The method we will be using for filtering the water is:
1. Clarify: Remove debris. If there are a lot of leaves, dirt or other particulate matter in the water source, run the water through a coffee filter, cheese cloth, or piece of fabric.
2. Disinfect: Harmful bacteria can be killed by boiling or by chemical disinfection, but both treatments may still leave harmful contaminants, so filtering is required as the final step. Essential oils to clean water of impurities and that are antiseptic: Lime, Lemon, Purify (don’t make pancakes with this water), Peppermint, Orange
3. Filter: Once your water has been clarified and disinfected, you’ll need to filter it to remove harmful health contaminants. Purchase a good NSF certified solid-activated carbon filter. The filter could be your everyday filter or a portable one you could take with you during an evacuation.
Doctrine and Covenants 38:30 says: “I tell you these things because of your prayers; wherefore, a treasure up by wisdom in your bosoms, lest the wickedness of men reveal these things unto you by their wickedness, in a manner which shall speak in your ears with a voice louder than that which shall shake the earth; but if ye are prepared ye shall not fear.”
