A Negative and Positive Charge:Using Chocolate Chip Cookies as an Example
"In 1911 Ernst Rutherferd performed an experiment that showed how charges and masses are are distributed in an atom. J.J. Thomson had hypothesized that the atom was similar to a chocolate chip cookie. Negative electrons (the "chips") nestled in the positive (the "Dough") of the atom in a way that balanced repulsion between like charges and attraction between unlike charges. Rutherford tested this model of the atom by using subatomic projectiles to bombard a target atoms. The projectiles, called alpha particles had been discovered during radioactivity. Alpha particles are high energy positively charged fragments of helium atoms emitted during radioactive decay of unstable elements such as uranium." (Olmsted and Williams chemistry book)
How interesting!
Of course I couldn't leave you with out the most amazing recipe foe chocolate chip cookies!
1/2 pound butter (2 sticks)
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
mix till fluffy
in a separate bowl mix
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
2 cups chocolate chips
roll into balls and bake at 350 for 9 minutes

Galen The Man Who Was One Of The First To Learn Medicine
Around the time of Galen Romans had conquered the Mediterranean sea, most of Europe, and most of Africa, the whole middle east and most of Asia. Most common things used for cures then were garlic and honey.
Then there was of course no thermometers then they used stethoscope for listening to hearts and lungs. Unfortunately then you could not accurately check a pulse with a sun dial sand or water clock. Galen not only was a great scientist but he was a great thinker. During the time of Galen you were not allowed to dissect humans, so mostly he knew about different kinds of animal bodies.
Galen's mothers name is unknown Galen's father's name is Nicon. he was an engineer, mathematician, philosopher, astronomer, and botanist. Galen's father was different from men in there time era, he decided he wanted to be more involved in his son's life and educated Galen.
Galen Eventually went to school and learned the basics of reading, writing and Greek, (they didn't have the number zero then so they did not do algebra) He used and abacus to do geometry.
then went on to an amazing doctor at tone of the arenas and doctoring the gladiators that did survive and went on leading and teaching people about his discoveries.Greeks are known for there intelligence!

Learning About The Neuroscience Of Taste And Why We Eat Our Food!
Recently I have watched and episode of nova science now! (love that tv show!) And I really got to go in depth of what goes on when we are cooking and eating our food! I loved this episode and though you science nerds out there might like to do some research as I did!

The Man Who Measured The Earth
I found this presentation paper from last semester!!
The man who
MEASURED THE earth
The man who
MEASURED THE earth
Eratosthenes was born in 276 BC in the city of
Cyrene which is now commonly known as Libya.
Eratosthenes was a very intelligent person; he
always wanted to know the answers to things. He studied in Athens then later
went to Alexandria Egypt.
While working on a geometry problem one day he
was sent for from the king Ptolemy the 3rd
And was asked to tutor his son in literature,
history, math and science. He was ecstatic to be able to tutor the king’s son.
It was during Eratosthenes time when the first encyclopedia and dictionary was
printed. After this time Eratosthenes had been asked to run the library in
Alexandria it was then that Aristophanes invented punctuation .during this time
as a librarian he read more about geography and the world, Eratosthenes had a
lot of questions about the earth like: How far does the earth tilt on its axis?
Does the ocean go across the whole earth? The sometimes felt discouraged about
how to measure the whole earth, did that stop him? Apparently not! Eratosthenes
began doing his intense research looking at scroll after scroll, Even though he was at the wealthiest library in
the world at the time ,all the scrolls had different answers , Eratosthenes
said to himself that he is going to make the first COMPLETE book on geography.
It took him many years to even get started on measuring the earth’s circumference;
He knew the book he was writing wouldn’t be complete without it.
Eratosthenes imagined the earth as a
grapefruit. (Show)
If it is sliced in half you can see the
sections, in order to measure the distance all the way around the edge of the
grape fruit,(The circumference) all you need to know is the distance along the
edge of one section, and how much it would take to make up the whole grapefruit.
The question is how any sections are needed? He
knew that every circle whether it is a small as a grapefruit or as big as the
earth, it is made up of 360 degrees. so if he could measure the inside angle of
one of his imaginary grapefruit in degrees , he could divide 360 by the answer
and know how many sections of that size would make a whole .
Eratosthenes pictured a section of the earth
form the outer edges of Alexandria to syene (SI-EE-NEE) (A city in S
Egypt) degrees. “I Eratosthenes could
figure out the distance between Alexandria to Syene”. And then measure the
grapefruit section he created. He would then be able to calculate the earth’s
circumference. But the question is how
he would be able to measure that angle, if it lies below the ground, at the
center of the earth. Then Eratosthenes realized that the sun could help him
with his angle problem. Eratosthenes heard from a caravan passing through
Alexandria that on the 21st day on June at precisely mid-day the sun
would shine directly down on a certain well in Syene, lighting up the well, but
not showing any shadows over the walls . But yet at the same time in Alexandria
it would show shadows. Eratosthenes knew exactly why because if the earth were
flat then the sun would strike the whole earth at the same time. Eratosthenes also
knew he could measure the angle of the sun from the shadow. So on June 21st
there would be an exact angle that lay at the 12pm center of the earth making
the inside of Alexandria – Syene a “Grapefruit” section. So Eratosthenes stood
waiting outside of the library at noon of June 21st and just as the
sun falling strait down
Also in Syene as well. He measured the angle to
be about 7.2 degrees then he divided 360 into 7.2 witch equaled 50. Now he knew
how to take 60 sections from Alexandria to Syene to get the circumference of
the earth.
Now Eratosthenes had all the numbers he needed
for the formula. He calculated the
circumference of the earth to be 255,000 shares or 24,662 miles.
2000 years later with modern technology they
figured out that Eratosthenes was only 16% off,
This is pretty good if you think about it he
was the first one to measure the earth. Eratosthenes never stopped asking
questions and lived till he was 82.
Georgics Foundation
This semester I have been lectured and taught the Virgil's Georgics foundation. Here are the seven building blocks for your Georgics foundation principles.
1.Providence
2.Self Validation

There are six "mini ags" they taught us that is the key to a Goergics foundation.
1.Soil
2.Grains
3.Livestock
4. Intensive Gardening
5.365 Day Harvest
6.Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPDM)

Another part of my Georgics foundation is to do six mini essays which are already posted.
The next is do an Oral presentation on earth science in which I chose doing the elements of the periodic table which is already posted.
Another is to have a minimum 60 entries in your commonplace note book. what is a commonplace notebook you may ask?
I do LEMI(leadership education mentoring institute) and TJED(Thomas Jefferson education ).If you are interested in looking into what I do check out this site http://www.tjed.org/.
We do classics not textbooks and we learn and are taught the way the founding fathers and great philosophers were taught. Well what does this have to do with what is a commonplace notebook? Well I will Tell you,a common place notebook is a notebook were you can wright down your impressions,or goals and what you have learned that day.(this is the key to more effective education)
The next is a minim of 60 core book studies. Core book what is a core book? A core book is a book you would defy and always go to, for example my core book is my scriptures, I am a Christian Mormon so I use King James version Bible, Pearl of great price,Book of Mormon and Doctrine and Covenants. Then we have to do a minim of 60 math lessons of approved math study course ( I am doing Pre- Algebra and Geometry)
Weekly plan are in order to with a minim of planing your weeks out for 12 weeks. (which is really helpful and organized my days). Earth science for my exams to certified. We have to memorize the following and be able to define it for the exam.
atmosphere,biodiversity, biomes,biotic,ecosystem,extinction,system,aesthetic,ethical,social, economic,stellar,photosynthesis,biomass,energy,species,big bang theory,blue shift,heavy element mass,nuclear fusion,red shift,theory,universe, astronomy,intelligent design,theory of plate tectonics, convergent, divergent,transform,tectonic plate,convection current,hypothesis,seafloor spreading,biomes,climate,weather,geosphere,biosphere,hydrosphere,volcanic eruption,hot spot,fault,ground water,resivoir,salinity,glacier,biological dynamics,ocean.lake,river,fresh water,tide,geologic time,water cycle,carbon cycle,climate,decomposer,matter,nitrogen cycle,ozone layer,depletion,fossil fuel lithosphere and absorbed.
YES THAT WAS 72 WORDS TO DEFINE!!! But yes I PASSED!!!
Another is have a garden plan. Here are the plan to give you an idea of what charts we filled out.
1.What would I like to grow?
2.Why do I want to grow them?
3.What can I grow in my area?
4.Do I need to grow inside or outside?
5.How much room do I need?
6.Were will I grow my garden?
7.What supplies do i need?
8.What is my budget? How will I pay for it?
9.Who will help me get the supplies?
10. Do I have my parents help and support?
11.Draw your garden plan.
So that is what we did and I chose to just do some sprouting so it could be cheap, fast and organic!!! Plus no weeds!!!
The last and Final thing is pass Math, Science and Georgics exams. (Math you use your test book from your pkg) and (Since you define all 72 earth science words)
For the Georgics exam I will share on what I am currently working on, which thank the Lord is open book!!! YAY!!!
Here is an example of what I am doing for my final last and final!!!
Give specific examples from the books we read this semester that had each of the following:
1. Providence
2.Self validation
3.Mission
4.Land ownership
5. Community stewardship
6.local interdependence
7. Entrepreneurialism
8.work/joy
9.self reliance
From the classics we read this semester show what was the following.
1.seeing the whole picture
2.participant vs. victim
3.perseverance and forgiveness
4.community interdependence
5.grattitude and hope
6.faith
7.law
Name the six Mini Ag ideals
Pick 2 book we read this semester and write down what you learned from them.
In Doctrine and Covenants 130:18-19 it says " 18 Whatever principle of aintelligence we attain unto in this life, it will rise with us in the bresurrection.
19 And if a person gains more aknowledge and intelligence in this life through his bdiligence and obedience than another, he will have so much the cadvantage in the world to come.

Prepping For My Simulation
Me along with all of my friends vote carefully on a class president. After he was elected he directly started putting everyone to work for our simulation. Although I don't know what our simulation is I was elected to be Attorney General. So I thought I have no idea what there role is so here is what I found.( These are not my words but my resources)

Colorado Attorney General
What is the Attorney General Colorado?
The Colorado Attorney General is a legal and administrative position undertaken by the appointed individual serving as the primary attorney – or Colorado lawyers – on behalf of the State of Colorado; the appointment of the Attorney General Colorado takes place through a statewide election. Although the Attorney General Colorado undertakes a vast array of duties and responsibilities, amongst the foremost of their responsibilities is to serve the collective citizenship of the State of Colorado through legislative advocacy and the guardianship of legal statutes:
The Attorney General Colorado
The Colorado Attorney General is Republican John Suthers, who was elected in 2005:
John Suthers’ term ends in 2015
John Suthers received his legal degree from the Law School at the University od Colorado
The Office of the Attorney General Colorado
The Office of the Attorney General of the State of Colorado is located in the State Building in Denver, Colorado
Criminal Justice Duties of the Colorado Attorney General
The various divisions of the Attorney General Colorado include the following:
Office of the Attorney General
Administration
Business and Licensing
Civil Litigation and Employment Law
Consumer Protection
Criminal Justice
Natural Resources and Environment
Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (POST)
State Services
The History of the Colorado Attorney General
The first Colorado Attorney General was James E. Dalliba, who served from 1861 to 1862
The Legal Process and Procedure of the Attorney General Colorado
Administrative Law and the Colorado Attorney General
Administrative Law is the legal field associated with events and circumstances in which Federal and State Governments of the United States interact with their respective citizens, including the administration of government programs, the creation of agencies, the establishment of a legal, regulatory standard; as a result, the Colorado Attorney General is an example of a State officer responsible for the protection and preservation of the rights and liberties afforded to the citizens of the State of Colorado.
In addition to serving as the primary prosecuting attorney on behalf of the State of Colorado, the Attorney General Colorado also serves as the chief advocate of legislature and statutory regulation existing within the State of Colorado
Common Law and the Colorado Attorney General
The Colorado Attorney General is identified as an officer within the legal realm of Common Law, which is the legal field and ideology considered to rely on past legal statutes, sentencing, and judicial review to serve as guidelines for sentencing; both the reference and respect of past judicial decisions as a means of determination for current legal hearings is amongst the primary ideologies inherent within Common Law:
In many cases, the Attorney General Colorado will employ the legal ideology of ‘Stare Decisis’ with regard to appellate hearings requested within the State of Colorado; Stare Decisis facilitates a hierarchy with regard to legal venue, within which the process of appeals is determined for potential hearings
Upon the ruling set forth by a court classified as a ‘lower’, an appeal may be subject to judicial review by a court ‘classified as ‘higher’ only in the event that the ‘higher court’ has cited fault within the initial sentencing; however, case decisions, rulings, and Colorado Attorney General Colorado judicial review will be cited as primary sources with regard to sentencing

How Solar Energy converts to Energy: Photosynthesis and Biomass
How Solar Energy converts to Energy: Photosynthesis
and Biomass
Written for: Youth
“Plants do photosynthesis, a complicated process,
and without plants, we'd all be dead.”
~ Pamela Ronald~
Photosynthesis; is the process of converting light
energy to chemical energy and storing it into
sugar and other carbohydrates.
SUNLIGHT + CLOROPLAST+C02+H2O=PHOTOSYNTHESIS
Sunlight energy is a portion of the electromagnetic
radiation given off by the sun, particularly an
ultraviolet light. Sunlight is filtered through the
earth’s atmosphere due to UV rays and radiation.
Chloroplast is organetles found in plant cells and
algae that contributes to photosynthesis.
Chloroplast absorbs sunlight and uses it with water
and carbon dioxide to produce
food for the plant.
Chloroplast is what captures the energy from the
light stored in ATP and
NADPH to create a process called photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis generally is the synthesis of
sugar from light, carbon dioxide and water with
oxygen as a waste product.
Chlorophyll is a green photosynthetic pigment found
in plants, algae, and cyanobacteria.
Photosynthesis goes hand in hand with Biomass which
converts solar energy.
Biomass: “The amount of living matter in a given
habitat expressed either as the weight of
organisms per unit area or as the volume of
organisms per unit volume of inhabitants.”
Biomass is often consisted of plant derived
materials or converted onto a type of energy or
biofuel. Biomass is now commonly used to produce
heat (via direct combustion).
Biomass can also contribute to reducing carbon
dioxide which is a large distributer to global
warming (Greenhouse gas)
“Although burning biomass releases as much carbon
dioxide as burning fossil fuel does, this is
because carbon dioxide released fossil fuel which
was carbon fixated that had been locked in the
hydrocarbon of fossil fuel.”(Wikipedia)
So how does all this combined convert solar energy
to energy?
SOLAR ENERGY= PHOTOSYNTHESIS+BIOMASS=ENERGY
CONVERTED FROM SOLAR ENERGY
I also found this while prepping for this essay!!
It is a song called photosynthesis rap!!!
