The benefits of learning math! How much do I really do math?

Many people (even myself) have asked the question. What is the point of learning math?

Here a simple yet mind blowing answer. ( you would be surprised to know that you know the answer too! )
:)

The way the great philosophers discovered time was through math.

Chefs, bakers and home cooks use math to prepare food.

Architects use math to do construction and designs.

The Man (Eratosthenes)   who measure the earth used math ( interesting fact:
2000 years later with modern technology they figured out that Eratosthenes was only 16% off,
This is pretty good if you think about it he was the first one to measure the earth., check out my post about him. http://love-4-science.blogspot.de/2013/05/the-man-who-measured-earth.html)

And yes even the genius who created the ipad used math!

Okay so hopefully your getting the big picture. Now that your horizons have been widened,  in what ways do you think you use math EVERYDAY? How much has math helped you in your life? You would be suprised to see how much you really do use math everyday! So yes give yourself a pat on the back, you really are using those simple yet complex skills!

Why their should be GMO labeling!

Why should their be GMO labeling? I think that their should definitely be GMO labeling. GMO stand for genetically modified organisms. What exactly is GMO? A genetically modified organisms is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using generic engineering techniques. GMO's commonly have ; bacteria, yeast, insects, plants, fish, and mammals. Some other things that  have happened to your food! Genetic engineering, genetic modification, horizontal gene transfer, molecular cloning, recombinant DNA, and genetic transformation. So basically what is happening to your food is they are altering it. Not only are GMOs in your food but they are also in medications and biofeul. With all the chemicals and engineering the U.S is using today, I think people should aware of what is in their food. Wether you think people care or not , people want to know if their food has been tampered with. By not putting GMO labeling you would not only be deceiving the consumer but you would be deceiving yourself as well. Why should their be GMO labeling? 1. Because it is DESTROYING billions of peoples health, 2. it is wrong to try to recreate what God has already created, 3. because it is strait up down right DISGUSTING!

Check out this video. I agree with what she has to say but I noticed she kept repeating the same point every time! But she won anyway!

A Negative and Positive Charge:Using Chocolate Chip Cookies as an Example

"In 1911 Ernst Rutherferd performed an experiment that showed how charges and masses are are distributed in an atom. J.J. Thomson had hypothesized that the atom was similar to a chocolate chip cookie. Negative electrons (the "chips") nestled in the positive (the "Dough")  of the atom in  a way that balanced repulsion between like charges and attraction between unlike charges. Rutherford tested this model of the atom by using subatomic projectiles to bombard a target atoms. The projectiles, called alpha particles had been discovered  during radioactivity. Alpha particles are high energy positively charged fragments  of helium atoms emitted during radioactive decay of unstable elements such as uranium." (Olmsted and Williams chemistry book)

How interesting!

Of course I couldn't leave you with out the most amazing recipe foe chocolate chip cookies!

1/2 pound butter (2 sticks)
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
2 eggs

1 tsp salt

Having an issue with passing your math or science classes? If You Find Yourself Saying "YES!" Then Read On!

Yes we all have been there! when you realize you are simply failing in your math class! I know when i was public schooled I always had C's and D's! Until some friends and teachers of mine from a homeschool school I was attending showed me Khan Academy! Yes it walks you thru every thing and does some practice runs and explains step by step! Here is the link to the founder on TED and The link to the totally  free online "academy"!

Galen The Man Who Was One Of The First To Learn Medicine

Galen was born September 22nd in the year of 130 (although it was kind of hard to be completely accurate)
Around the time of Galen Romans had conquered the Mediterranean sea, most of Europe, and most of Africa, the whole middle east and most of Asia. Most common things used for cures then were garlic and honey.
Then there was of course no thermometers then they used stethoscope for listening to hearts and lungs. Unfortunately then you could not accurately check a pulse with a sun dial sand or water clock. Galen not only was a great scientist but he was a great thinker. During the time of Galen you were not allowed to dissect humans, so mostly he knew about different kinds of animal bodies.

Galen's mothers name is unknown Galen's father's name is Nicon. he was an engineer, mathematician, philosopher, astronomer, and botanist. Galen's father was different from men in there time era,  he decided he wanted to be more involved in his son's life and educated Galen.

Galen Eventually went to school and learned the basics of reading, writing and Greek, (they didn't have the number zero then so they did not do algebra) He used and abacus to do geometry.
then went on to an amazing doctor at tone of the arenas and doctoring the gladiators that did survive and went on leading and teaching people about his discoveries.Greeks are known for there intelligence!
